Purdue Day of Service volunteers aid fall upkeep at Horticulture Park

Forty volunteers met at Purdue’s West Lafayette location on Friday, October 17, eager to pull on their gloves and grab a rake for the fall 2025 Purdue Day of Service.

Volunteers helped the Purdue Grounds Department refresh campus for fall during the seventh installment of this semiannual signature event, hosted by the Purdue for Life Foundation. Each spring and fall, Purdue Day of Service provides an opportunity for alumni volunteers to step away from their desks, enjoy some fresh air, and roll up their sleeves to support the Purdue community.

Refreshing landscaping beds

For three hours, volunteers were hard at work spreading 70 cubic yards of mulch around the landscaping beds at Horticulture Park. Their efforts were a tremendous help—far exceeding what Purdue Grounds could have completed alone in one morning.

Purdue University and the Purdue for Life Foundation created Purdue Day of Service in 2021 to encourage alumni and friends of the university to embrace volunteerism.

If you couldn’t make it to the event but would still like to contribute, you can donate to the Purdue Arboretum. For other volunteer opportunities, visit our volunteer webpage.
